Zidane Head-Butt Immortalized

Yes folks, see and believe.  The head-butt will live forever, not just on film, but in bronze.  Of course THE head-butt refers to Zinedine Zidane's head-butt on Marco Materazzi in the end of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Final.

The incident happened in the 110th minute of the match, when the French international head butted the Italian in the chest.  He was sent off, and it was to be his final match.  Italy went on to win the match, and the World Cup, 5-3 on penalties.

Zidane was given a 3 match ban for the incident, but as he retired after the match, he served 3 days working with FIFA's humanitarian arm instead.  Since his retirement, Zidane has participated in various charities and plays for the Real Madrid Veterans squad.

The statue has been erected in Paris and is....interesting to say the least!

RVP Signs With United, and Wayne Rooney Trolls Piers Morgan

At this point we all have all pretty much heard that Arsenal Captain Robin Van Persie has been sold to Manchester United.  You also probably know that Piers Morgan threatened to end his own life should RvP leave the Gunners.  Well, unless you follow Wayne Rooney on twitter, which I recommend you do, you might have missed this little masterpiece of Twitter Trolling:

Yes, Wayne posted a pic of RvP in his new United training duds, directed right at the CNN host.  United fan or not, Wayne Rooney is always good for a laugh.  One of my favorite footballers on twitter.

Now THIS Is An OWN GOAL!

Well if you're going to put the ball into your own net, at least do it in style!

Mario Balotelli's "Why Always Me" T-Shirt vs. Manchester United

Mario Balotelli sporting his "Why Always Me?" shirt after putting City up 1-0 over United in the 22nd minute of Sunday's Manchester Derby. Balotelli was given a yellow card on the play for pulling his jersey over his head. No humor allowed in soccer.

At least it didn't say "John 3:16"

Rafa Marquez Rips His Own Team After RSL Thrashing

So today Rafa Marquez made some more waves in New York. Not the good kind either. Last night the Red Bulls got their clocks cleaned on their home pitch by Real Salt Lake. Of course, it wasn't Rafa's fault at all. It couldn't be, I mean he's a DP. Today, through an interpreter, he leveled some pretty harsh words at his team.

First off, the Mexican super-ego said: "I think this is a team game and unfortunately there isn't an equal level between my teammates and me." Wow. I don't think you'd even hear that of Cristiano Ronaldo, the king of soccer egos. So, Rafa, how many MLS cups has NY won since your Golden Ass signed up? Oh, right, none. How has your individual performance been, particularly since Gold Cup? Oh, right, HORRIBLE.

He then called out Tim Ream and Teemu Tainio saying: "two terrible individual mistakes changed the game." Now, this is a true statement. Both Ream and Tainio messed up big time leading to RSL goals. However, it's one thing to have your coach call you out, it's another thing to have a teammate do it. Especially a teammate that gets payed a hell of a lot of money to play like garbage.

So we'll see what happens. The Red Bulls are obviously imploding. The only other team in the league right now that is failing as bad is the Rapids. *snort*

If Rafa and Ream want to check out some good central defense, all they need to do is watch Olave and Borchers.

Another Trophy Bites the Dust

We really gotta be more careful with these trophies.

Following the lead of Sergio Ramos, Ajax GK Maarten Stekelenburg dropped the Dutch Eredivisie trophy off the team bus when he ran into some overhead tram lines. A Fan picked it up and handed it back up to the team.

Stekelenburg, seriously, you're a goal keeper. You're supposed to be able to hold on to stuff.

Tim Howard Allstate ads

USA and Everton FC Goalkeeper Tim Howard recently debuted three commercials for Allstate Insurance. All three are hilarious, but this is my favorite. Nice job, Cool Tim.

Ramos throws the Copa del Rey under the bus....literally.

Real Madrid was excited about the Copa del Rey finding a new resting place in Madrid, they just didn't know it would be under the team bus.

Sergio Ramos dropped the cup off the roof of the bus, and the bus ran it over, breaking the trophy. I mean, hey, who HASN'T left a soda or major sports trophy on the roof of your car, amirite?

Real Madrid will have trophy repaired. No word on whether or not Ramos will get to play around with future trophies.
