Dwayne De Rosario suffered a major knee injury on international duty.
DC United's playoff hopes took a huge hit this week as captain Dwayne De Rosario suffered a major knee injury on international duty with Canada. The reigning MVP suffered the injury during Tuesday's 2-0 loss to Panama. United are currently ruling him out 10-12 weeks, which means he will miss the rest of the regular season. They're hoping that he might be able to return for the playoffs if they're able to make a deep run.
This is a big blow to DC, who sit one point out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with seven matches left. DeRo has seven goals and twelves assists on the season, landing him second in MLS in the assist category.
DC coach Ben Olsen said:
“DeRo is our captain, a great player and impossible to replace. With that said, we have talented players that will step up in his absence and this injury will not be an excuse to fall short of goals we set for ourselves as a team at the beginning of the season.”
DeRo recently scored his 100th MLS goal and also became Canada's all time leading scorer. DC host the New England Revolution Saturday in their first test without their captain.
