Match Thoughts: Colorado Rapids vs. Real Salt Lake.

Once again this year, as the cool breeze and chill of autumn descends over the mountain west, two heated rivals clashed in Commerce City to determine who would take the Rocky Mountain Cup home for the next year. Let's face it, neither Colorado or RSL have had the season they wanted this year. Both will most likely be in the playoffs, but this is a chance for silverware.

RSL led the cup tie 1-0 coming by virtue of a late winner earlier this season in SLC. All they had to do to win the cup was keep the Rapids out of the back of the net. it was tough at times, but they managed. Barely.

It was a physical match, as this derby always is. RSL picked up four yellows and Colorado had one. One of the talking points came in the 28th minute, as Rimando looked to bring down Nyassi in the box. Referee Guzman wasn't buying though, and no PK was given on the play. I don't think it was, but then again, I'm biased. I'm sure Rapids fans feel differently.

RSL had a couple of chances in the second half, most notably by Javi Morales. Still, it must be said that the Rapids had the better chances, especially late. Caleb Folan had two great chances, one saved Rimando and one saved by the crossbar. In the end, the Rapids couldn't put it in the back of the net either and RSL retained the cup by virtue of the 1-0 win from earlier this year.

The point helps the Rapids a little in the playoff race, but they're still looking over their shoulder a bit.
