Barclay's Premier League Final 2012 Results
So another stellar Barclay's Premier League campaign has come to an end. The 2011-2012 season could be the most memorable in the league's 20 year history. The title pretty much came down to the last kick of the season, with Sergio Aguero scoring a goal that handed Manchester City the title on goal difference.
The Champions League spots go to: Manchester City, of course, Manchester United, Arsenal, and tentatively Tottenham Hotspur. If Chelsea win this year's Champion's League final, they'll take the final spot and Spurs will head to the Europa League.
The other Europa League spots still need to be sorted out some. Newcastle finished 5th and will be going. Chelsea and Liverpool are in via domestic cup success, and Everton could wind up there as well. The bonus for Everton is that they finished above their bitter rivals Liverpool. David Moyes continues to do amazing work for the Toffees.
Finally we have the bad news for three teams. Coming into Survival Sunday Wolverhampton and Blackburn had already been relegated. The final spot still had to be decided with Bolton, QPR, Wigan, and Aston Villa all in some degree of danger. Wigan beat Wolves to move into safety. Villa, QPR, and Bolton all lost, keeping Bolton and QPR level on 34 points. This sends Bolton down with QPR holding the superior goal difference.
We already know that Championship winners Reading and runner up Southampton will join the Premier League next season. This coming weekend Blackpool will play West Ham United at Wembley to see who will join them. Both of those clubs were relegated last year, so one will find redemption. At any rate, I can't WAIT for next year, which will hopefully be just as spectacular as this one was.
