Liverpool Sack "King Kenny" Dalglish

Kenny Dalglish has been sacked by Liverpool FC

I'm not sure we'll ever know what the final straw was that got Kenny Dalglish fired at Liverpool.  Was it poor league position?  Was it the fact that Everton finished higher than Liverpool?  Was it Liverpool's fairly dismal showing through two-thirds of the FA Cup final?   Was it the fact that Anfield lost pretty much all value as a home field advantage?  Maybe it was because King Kenny thought the Carling Cup was enough.

Whatever the final reason, Fenway Sports Group announced today that they have terminated Dalglish's contract after a year and a half on the job.  Apparently Dalglish had been in the United States meeting with Fenway sports group, and returned to the UK yesterday.  The announcement comes less than 24 hours after his return.

In all reality the problem is most likely the fact that club spent heavily into the players King Kenny wanted, but ended up with nothing to show for it except for the Carling Cup.  The investments include the much maligned Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson, and England winger Stewart Downing who failed to tally a single goal or assist in EPL play this last season.

Fenway Sports Group had this to say in a statement:

"Fenway Sports Group and Liverpool Football Club announce that Kenny Dalglish is to leave his post today as manager after having his contract terminated. After a careful and deliberative review of the season the club came to the decision that a change was appropriate. It is not a decision that was reached lightly or hastily. The search for a new manager will begin immediately."

Somewhere Rafa Benitez is laughing right now.
