So my Colorado Rapids fans finally have some decent news as we approach the new MLS season in March. Yesterday the Rapids announced that former FC Dallas assistant coach Oscar Pareja would be their new manager, replacing Gary Smith.
Pareja has an impressive pedigree as a player, playing 18 seasons for Independiente Medellin, Deportivo Cali, and FC Dallas. He was named to the MLS Best XI squad in 2002. he retired in 2005, and has spent the last three years in the FC Dallas organization. He was also capped 11 times for his native Colombia.
All in all, I think it's a pretty solid move for the Rapids, even if it was a little late. Still, I'm on record as saying I don't think the problem in Commerce City was Gary Smith. The guy did win an MLS Cup after all.
