The 2012 Clausura continued it's kickoff weekend on Saturday with Queretaro vs. America at La Corregidora. The first half was mostly a fizzle, but America gave their supporters something to cheer about in the second after a disappointing Apertura campaign.
Both clubs traded half chances through the first half, but it was America who got the best chance. In the 25th Queretaro conceded a PK. Looked pretty much like yet another dive in a Primera Division match to me, but what can you do? Cristian Benitez stepped up and scored the PK, but the referee whistled for a retry. On the second kick, 'keeper Liborio Sanchez made the stop and the 0-0 score held through the half.
America asserted themselves in the second half with goals. In the 69th minute Benitez made up for the penalty miss and tallied his first of the Clausura to make it 0-1. Then late in the match they iced it with a second from substitute Juan Medina to make the full time result 0-2 to America.
The three points sent the visitors joint top with Toluca at the end of the first Clausura weekend.
