EPL: Blackburn vs. Everton

So what does one say about this match? It was sloppy, it was often ugly, and both clubs REALLY needed the points. Blackburn came into the match at 0 points, hoping to get on track at home. Everton lost their opener to QPR last weekend and were also on 0 with their first match against Spurs being postponed.

In the first half, nothing happened. Both teams had chances and blew them. Late in the first half the football got ugly as the teams got desperate. The half ended scoreless.

The story of the second half was penalty kicks. Blackburn had 2 and Everton had 1. Blackburn got their first right after half time as Ross Barkley brought down Formica after turning ball over. However, Howard saved the PK and score remained 0-0. They got another chance in the 83rd minute. Formica was causing problems in the area again and this time Jagielka brought him down. Once again Blackburn screwed up as Formica hit the post on the PK.

Everton got their chance in stoppage time. Chris Samba looked to have fouled Fellaini in the box. Looked a bit soft to me. Anyway, Arteta did NOT miss from the spot and earned the Toffees a 0-1 win. Three crucial points on the road and a nice match from Tim Howard.
