Both the power delay at Red Bull arena and the fact that the match was televised in Spanish means I didn't pay a ton of attention to it. You just get a blurb from me on this one, but it was a pretty good match.
First off: Chivas USA. For a team that looked like they were going to be firmly stuck at the bottom of the table all season, the Goats have been doing well. Their defense has been pretty good all season, and you'd expect that from a Robin Fraser team. Now they've started to score goals though. One had o wonder if that would change with Mondiani out. Fortunately they have Justin Braun, who put up a hat trick today. The Red Bulls had no answer for him. The Goats were clearly not intimidated by the big time Red Bulls and talk of Henry, DeRo, and company. I think Fraser is starting to get through to these guys and you just might see them poking around the bottom playoff spots.
As for the Red Bulls...well? They had some good moments, most of them on the offensive side of the ball. They were pretty much a mess on defense tonight. It looked like Condoul was about ready to explode. Maybe Justin Braun was invisible, cause he went unmarked a lot. I suppose the Red Bulls will say the positive was DeRo getting his first goal, albeit from the penalty spot. In the final analysis though, a loss to a team like Chivas at home brings them crashing back to earth a bit. It's still early in the season, too early to crown anybody champion. Sometimes the hype doesn't help the club.
