Match Blurb: Portland Timbers vs. Columbus Crew

This is going to be just a blurb because this match was a total snooze fest. I mean hey, props to Portland picking up another big three points at home. It's not like the Crew ever got off the bus though.

The only player that even showed up for Columbus was Heinemann. He also gave the Crew their only real scoring chance of the the entire match in the 42nd minute. He got his head on a pass and put it on goal. It looked like it was surely heading to the bottom corner. However Troy Perkins, in what is a sure bet for a save of the week nominee, just barely got a hand on it and knocked it wide. We had 0-0 at the break.

Just about thirty seconds into the second half, we got our only other excitement of the night. Former Crew member Eric Brunner got his head on a free kick in the 46th minute and put it past Hesmer, giving Portland the winning 1-0 margin. The Crew had a half chance in the 87th minute when Rogers nicked the post.

So what do we take from this? Well the Crew might be in trouble. This clean sheet on the back of a drubbing by the Quakes shows what a power outage they're having. Honestly the Crew have been better than I thought they'd be, but they're having a tough time right now.

I think Portland has cause for concern as well. Another set piece goal. Hey sure, it's great to score off these chances, but they need to start putting the ball in the net during the run of play. This is a couple weeks in a row where they haven't played really well, but kudos to them for picking up the points.
